Modern Religious Art Museum

The Basilica of Koekelberg hosts an extensive collection of paintings and sculptures from the Modern Religious Art Museum of the diocese of Bruges.

The MMRK stands for a religiously and spiritually inspired art for the now, for contemporary people.

The new exhibition “Crossing Ways” stands for an interpretation on the 14 stations of the Cross Way, taking the museums’ collection as a starting point and adding contemporary artists. Each station of the Cross Way holds an interpretation or symbolizes a personal but also a global journey with its obstacles, setbacks, and suffering. Still, in the end the human hopes for a light and something worth living for. This inspires a 15th station, resurrection.

The new exhibition is curated by Denys Shantar, a Swiss – Ukrainian artist and curator, who is currently based in Antwerp.
